Work made for the World Health Organisation

Considering the body as a time-based object, this work looked at those parts of the body whose health can be retrieved by giving up smoking. Each body-part was then used as the label for a part of a watch, the watch-parts chosen for their places in the transference of an external entity (winding energy/mouth and throat) into stored energy (the spring/respiratory and circulatory system) via a column (winding shaft/trachea and bronchioles), and thence to the working of the mechanism (the hands/muscles and bones).

The work was shown in a large exhibition with works by Miroslav Balka, Gavin Turk, Wim Delvoye, and other international artists, at the Whitechapel Gallery, London, the Charite in Berlin, and at the Hafnurborg Gallery, Iceland. The work was bought by St Thomas's Hospital, London.
